It can even increase your self-esteem, physical / mental health and relationships!

We all have different interests and priorities in our homes, but in all cases, a space that reflects the best parts of yourself reigns supreme, and will take you far this year.

Here are some easy ways to get more peace and tranquility from your home in time to make a big dent in all of your New Year’s Resolutions for an awesome 2019!

GET RID OF IT

  • If you or your family havn’t worn/used a piece of clothing, an electronic gadget, or a toy in more than 12 months, chances are you never again will. As now famous, best-selling author and cleaning consultant Marie Kondo states in her book, ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up’,

“The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life”, and explains that:

“when we really delve into the reasons for why we can't let something go, there are only two: an attachment to the past or a fear for the future”, advising further “Keep only those things that speak to your heart.”

    But, where to start?

DONATE IT

  • For New Yorkers, Housing Works is the go-to, and not only have you avoided a land-fill, but you are also supporting dis-advantaged men, women and children, particularly those living with HIV. Every will have donation options, such as Salvation Army.

SELL IT

  • Beacon’s Closet is the iconic Vintage and Modern Used clothing store in NYC with locations all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. Trade in your old clothing for cash, or find a new treasure. Similarly, Buffalo Exchange, which started in Colorado, also has 48 locations in 17 states. Then you can use your cash from sales to buy one new, beautiful outfit for the new year, or donate it to your favorite cause. Every little bit helps!

ORGANIZE IT

  • Sometimes all you need is to be able to SEE something to make the best use of it. A well displayed, functional closet or pantry can do wonders to jump-start your streamlined life.

DIY systems are available at Easy Closets. For a bit more support, try the container store’s in-home organizers. Local Home-Organizers/consultants are also available on Thumbtack which not only help design your space but can also help you sort through your belongings and co-create a plan to stay organized in the future … and for a completely custom solution, hire a local interior designer .

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR TIDYING UP and WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY, HEALTHY, CLUTTER-FREE 2019!
